Robert J. Gilliard, Jr. (2016)


Robert earned his B.S. in chemistry from Clemson University and Ph.D. from the University of Georgia, forging new directions in synthetic beryllium chemistry. In 2013, he was awarded the Martin Reynolds Smith Prize for his research and was selected as a U.S. delegate to the Nobel Laureate Meeting in Germany. As a 2014 UNCF/Merck and 2015 Ford Foundation postdoctoral fellow, he initiated collaborative research on phosphorus chemistry at ETH Zürich (Grützmacher) and Case Western Reserve University (Protasiewicz). Thus far, Robert has co-authored 16 publications and was honored in Forbes Magazine’s 2016 list of “30 Under 30”.
