Jeffrey Y. W. Mak (2017)

Jeffrey (UQ University Medal, Ph.D.) undertook doctorate studies in natural product total synthesis with Prof. Craig Williams at The University of Queensland. This culminated in the first synthesis of two caged diterpenes, (−)-neovibsanin G and (−)-14-epi-neovibsanin G. In 2012, he joined Prof. David Fairlie's group at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience to gain experience at the chemistry/biology interface. In 2014, he played a key role in the synthesis of the chemically unstable bacterial ligands that activate mucosal associated invariant T (MAIT) cells. Currently, he is focused on developing new MAIT cell ligands, and co-supervises two students (Ph.D. and Honours).
